Last week, Hakkers signed the contract to build an all-electric work vessel. This is an important step we are taking towards making our fleet more sustainable.
William Hakkers (large equipment manager) explains: “We believe the market demand for this type of vessel remains high. So we really wanted to invest in a new work vessel. And, as a family business, we always look at the long term. This is why we chose a completely emission-free work vessel, so that the next generation can continue to work with it. MS Jan is based on the existing work vessel MS Cornelis. Starting points included the vessel dimensions (33.60m x 7.2m) and the size of the work deck. Curious? You’re welcome to contact us.” Work vessel Jan is being built by Groeneveldt Marine Construction located in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. The vessel will be put into service on Hakkers’ projects starting in January 2024 and will be used to build jetties and quay walls. All of our vessels and other equipment are being gradually prepared for future-proof use. In the meantime, we have ordered our first all-electric hydraulic excavator. These two decisions show we are fulfilling our vision of sustainable business that will enable zero-emission work in the future, including in structural hydraulic engineering.
